Question 27: I've heard that I have to mow my lawn REALLY low to prep for this. I don't know if i'm comfortable with that ... do I really need to scalp my lawn?

That's totally understandable, especially if you're in the majority of people who cut their lawns at a medium to high height.  Now keep in mind what we're suggesting is not scalping ... because that's basically cutting your grass right down to the earth. We're suggesting as low as possible before you get to the scalping height.

The only reason we suggest this pre-treatment low cut is because we want the treatment to last as long as possible, it's as simple as that.

Here's an excerpt from FAQ 12 ("How long does it last"?)

Depending on how the pre application preparation is done ... up to three months.

So here's the difference in terms of longevity of the treatment between a low cut prep and a medium cut prep.

With a medium cut prep we would be applying the treatment to the top or blades of the grass which means that depending on how often you subsequently mow your lawn, you'd be cutting of the treated areas!

So depending on how "deep" down into your grass the treatment got, that would determine through how many subsequent mows it would last.  In simple terms you would (over time) be mowing off the treatment so it would not last nearly as long as with the low cut prep.

On the other hand, with the low cut prep we're basically applying the treatment to the browner stalks/stems of your grass. (and underlayment/thatch of your lawn) â€‹

This means that even if you subsequently (after treatment) mow your growing lawn at your preferred medium to high height, you wouldn't be mowing off the treatment.

As a matter of fact, even if you mow short (thereby trimming the tops of your new grass) your lawn still remains green. ( since the treatment goes deeper than that)

So it's totally understandable to freak out about cutting your grass really low if you've never done it before. Not to worry though, it'll look great once the treatment is applied and look even better in the following days and weeks when the grass comes back in.

Besides, it's just a cut for the initial prep since after the treatment you can go back to cutting as high (or low) as you'd like.

Incidentally, we would make the recommendation as to how low you should go (for the prep) in our initial consultation visit. The "cut as low as possible" is only the general recommendation based on our experience with the condition of the average lawn.
